Responsibilities :  Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled and difficult combination welding tasks in the design, maintenance, repair, modification and fabrication of equipment, specialized tools, pipeline, machinery and other metal structures used in the Districts water distribution facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.

Description :  Repairs, reinforces and modifies water mains, service lines, guard rails, buildings, vaults and vault lids, steel cylinder pipelines, supports, brackets, ladders, racks, tanks, cages, frames, valve parts, specialized tools and equipment, small bridges and other metal structures; uses welding equipment, fillers and techniques applicable to a wide variety of metals and alloys; straightens, shapes, brazes, tempers, cuts and welds varied metals in repair tasks.

Designs and fabricates specialized tools and equipment; fabricates a wide variety of steel pipelines, supports, brackets, ladders, racks, tanks, cages, railings, small bridges, vault lids, frames, valve parts and other metal structures.

Operates cutting torch, saws, presses, hoists, grinders, buffers, electrical (arc), oxyacetylene (gas) and portable welders and related power and hand tools and equipment.

Reads and interprets diagrams and blueprints for fabrication assignments.

Completes and maintains documentation on all work completed and records of maintenance and inventory of all assigned equipment; orders and stocks welding supplies.

Sets up delineators, barricades, jersey rails, cones and other traffic control devices.

Ensures proper safety precautions are observed.

Knowledge of:

Methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the oxyacetylene and electric arc welding trade; safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; practices and procedures of shop and field welding; basic metallurgy; welding properties of the various metals and alloys used in the water utility field; structural welding codes and regulations applicable to the work.

Responsibilities :  
Working independently and in a team environment and reports directly to workshop supervisor.

Description :  1. Work Area: Maintain clean and clear work areas, report defective or damaged tool or leads, turn off power points and gas points at end of shift, care of company tools and equipment, return tools, equipment & materials to correct locations.
2. Cranage: Use competently electric overhead cranes, proper selection and use of chain, wire, and fibre slings, safely use crane for travel or rotation of materials.
3. Cutting: Proper and safe use of mechanical machines and of thermal cutting tools.
4. Grinders: Proper and safe use of bench grinders, safe use of 230 & 125mm angle grinders to grind, prepare weld penetrations & de-bur materials and fittings.
5. Fabricate: Accurately select materials and fittings to drawing requirements,accurately measure using steel tape measures to mark, with engineers chalk, given dimensions on detailed drawings, accurately hole members, accurately select and tack weld fittings, accurately hard stamp members where indicated and use ink markers to identify job number & paint system.
6. Welding: To check tack welded members for compliance to shop drawings, achieve AS1554.1 welding standard & correct weld size, use anti spatter medium, de-bur fittings/materials and to clean weld spatter.
7. Loading: Assist in leading completed products on transport, assist in safe handling of materials.
