Job Profile: Transport Manager - Liquid Chemicals

Position Overview:

The Transport Manager for Liquid Chemicals is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe transportation of liquid chemicals via road tankers and ISO tankers. This role requires a deep understanding of chemical transportation regulations, mechanical knowledge related to tanker equipment, and strong leadership skills to manage a team of drivers and logistics personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all safety regulations and protocols governing the transportation of liquid chemicals, including but not limited to handling hazardous materials, emergency response procedures, and equipment maintenance.

2. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with local, state, and regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials, ensuring all operations meet or exceed legal requirements.

3. Driver Management: Recruit, train, and supervise a team of drivers, providing ongoing support, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of professionalism, safety, and efficiency.

4. Route Planning and Optimization: Develop and optimize transportation routes to minimize costs, reduce transit times, and maximize fuel efficiency while ensuring the safe transport of liquid chemicals.

5. Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of road tankers and ISO tankers, coordinating with maintenance staff and external service providers to ensure all vehicles are in optimal working condition.

6. Inventory Management: Coordinate with inventory control personnel to ensure accurate tracking and management of liquid chemical shipments, including monitoring levels, scheduling deliveries, and addressing any discrepancies or shortages.

7. Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response protocols to address accidents, spills, or other incidents during transportation, ensuring swift and effective action to mitigate risks and protect personnel, the public, and the environment.

8. Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for transportation operations, including fuel expenses, maintenance costs, personnel expenses, and other related expenditures.

9. Customer Relations: Maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and professionally to ensure satisfaction and continued business partnerships.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in transportation management in GCC, particularly in the handling of liquid chemicals, road tankers, and ISO tankers.
  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in route planning software, inventory management systems, and other relevant technology.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of tanker equipment and maintenance procedures.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
