2. JOB PURPOSE / ROLE:
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is pleased to announce the availability of a fully funded PhD scholarship, for
exceptional and motivated candidates interested in pursuing advanced research in the field of sociology and
environmental studies.
This scholarship aims to support outstanding young researchers in developing their expertise and contributing to
the advancement of sociological knowledge on environmental-related issues and especially in the context of the
UAE society. The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program of the Sociology Department at Sorbonne
Université (Paris) and will be associate to Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Research Institute.

4. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Research Focus:
The successful candidate will investigate and analyze recycling habits in the United Arab
Emirates, exploring factors influencing recycling behavior, identifying challenges and
opportunities, and proposing innovative strategies to enhance recycling rates and
environmental sustainability. The quantitative approach will be followed for the methodology,
so the candidate needs to master quantitative research methods and statistical analysis.

Scholarship
Details:
The selected candidate will receive a full scholarship covering tuition fees and a stipend for
living expenses. The candidate is expected to live in the UAE and be available for travelling to
Paris when required.
The scholarship is renewable for up to three years, contingent on satisfactory progress and
fulfilment of the research requirements.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members from the Department of
Sociology in Paris and in Abu Dhabi as well as a representative from Veolia Middle East.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview, either in person or virtually in May.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
▪ Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field (environmental studies), earned with praise (GPA
above 3.5 or 15/20).
▪ Demonstrated academic excellence and research skills.
▪ Demonstrated statistical literacy and quantitative data analysis skills.
▪ Strong interest in contributing to the field of sociology through innovative and impactful research.
▪ Significant knowledge on the UAE society and Emirati/Gulf culture will be an asset.
▪ Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English language).
