Job Description

Vessel Side Tally:

  • Receive a copy of the manifest summary from the Vessel Foreman before the commencement of vessel operations.
  • Notify the Vessel Foreman of the presence of cargo marks and ensure authorization is provided by the agent before discharging the cargo.
  • Count the total cargo being loaded onto the vessel and prepare the 'load tally sheet'. Maintain a constant track of every move during the discharge/loading of bagged cargo.
  • Exchange tally sheets with the agent's tally clerk, who is usually present during direct delivery.
  • Exchange receive/load tally sheets with the agent's tally sheets after completion of each sheet. The agent should prepare and submit p/p tally sheets to the shed office for processing gate passes.
  • Include a remark on the tally sheet, 'No agent representative available,' if the agent has not deployed any tally clerks.
  • Receive details from the Vessel Foreman about the exact cause of faults and delays during vessel operations. Note these details, along with the duration of the delay, in the 'Fault and Delay sheet'.
  • Obtain acknowledgment of the fault and delay sheet from the agent representative post-vessel operations and forward the documents to the Shed Documentation Clerk.

Yard/Shed Tally:

  • Receive instructions and work allocation from the Shed Documentation Clerk and monitor cargo movement to and from the yard/shed on three types of movement: receipt from the vessel, issue to the vessel, and delivery to the consignee.
  • Tally the cargo received from the vessel in the yard/shed after the completion of vessel operations, prepare the 'receive tally sheet', and submit the documents to the shed office for further processing.
  • Coordinate with the lift operators to assist in categorizing the cargo in the storage area according to the marks.
  • Monitor the movement of cargo while issuing or receiving it to/from a vessel for export, using the same 'issue tally sheet' and record accordingly.
  • Monitor the cargo during delivery to the consignee, prepare a 'Delivery sheet' for each truck, and forward the sheets to the Shed Documentation Clerk for the purpose of preparing the gate pass.
