Job Description
Housekeeping staff in a medical center are responsible for ensuring that all areas of the facility are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained. Their work is vital in preventing the spread of infections and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients, healthcare workers, and visitors. They follow strict protocols and use specialized cleaning agents and equipment to meet healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Disinfection:
- Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, operating rooms, exam rooms, and other clinical areas.
- Disinfecting high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and medical equipment.
- Performing terminal cleaning after patient discharge or surgery to ensure the area is free from pathogens.
- Waste Management:
- Properly disposing of medical waste, including sharps, biohazard materials, and general waste.
- Emptying and sanitizing waste bins regularly and ensuring proper segregation of waste types.
- Floor Care:
- Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
- Cleaning and sanitizing carpets, mats, and upholstery.
- Stripping, waxing, and buffing hard floors as needed.
- Laundry and Linens:
- Collecting, washing, and distributing hospital linens, including bed sheets, gowns, and towels.
- Ensuring linens are sanitized and stocked in appropriate areas.
- Supply Management:
- Maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies and requesting replenishments as necessary.
- Ensuring cleaning carts are stocked and organized.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhering to infection control policies and procedures.
- Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous materials.
- Reporting any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
- Customer Service:
- Interacting with patients, visitors, and staff courteously and respectfully.
- Responding promptly to requests for additional cleaning or supplies.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously clean and disinfect areas to prevent infection.
- Knowledge of Cleaning Protocols: Understanding of healthcare cleaning standards and practices.
- Time Management: Efficiently managing time to complete tasks within strict schedules.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to perform repetitive tasks, lift heavy objects, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Communication: Basic ability to communicate with team members and healthcare staff.
- Dependability: Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Discretion: Respecting the privacy and confidentiality of patients.
