Job Description
A Painter is responsible for applying paint and finishes to vehicles after body repairs. This role requires expertise in color matching, paint mixing, surface preparation, and spraying techniques to ensure a high-quality finish that meets the standards of the company and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation:
- Clean, sand, and mask vehicle surfaces to prepare them for painting.
- Mix paint colors to match existing vehicle colors or to customer specifications.
- Painting:
- Apply primer, base coat, and clear coat using spray guns and other painting equipment.
- Ensure even coverage and a smooth finish by using proper spraying techniques.
- Use blending and feathering techniques to ensure seamless repairs and color matches.
- Finishing:
- Buff and polish painted surfaces to achieve a high-gloss finish.
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects, such as runs, sags, and dust, and make necessary corrections.
- Maintenance:
- Maintain and clean painting equipment and work area.
- Keep an inventory of paint supplies and order replacements as needed.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and proper disposal of waste materials.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical training in automotive painting preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in automotive painting.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in paint mixing, matching, and application techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in paint application.
- Ability to work with various types of paint and finishes.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
