    The MEA Legal and Compliance team is a collaborative and high performing function which enjoys and values the support of the business.

    The successful candidate will be a qualified lawyer with strong regulatory experience. The individual will play a pivotal role in engaging with regulatory change and putting in place compliance frameworks for the organisation, guiding governance and regulatory matters as well as wider legal initiatives. Working closely with Heads of Legal and Compliance, the role will provide opportunities for exposure to senior stakeholders and decision-makers within the MEA business, and with counterparts across the globe to align best practices.

    The individual will also have oversight of corporate governance in Middle East and Africa.

    As part of the MEA Legal and Compliance team, the successful candidate will be a trusted business partner, asked to shape and stay involved in opportunities and projects from the outset. As a senior lawyer, you will work closely with your colleagues in Legal and Compliance supporting Cigna’s business with accurate, proportionate and timely legal and regulatory advice to assist the operational, strategic and financial aims of Cigna. The job content will be excitingly broad in line with the scope of Cigna’s MEA business, and will include onshore and offshore regulatory advice. Creativity and flexibility is critical for this role as you will be required to identify solutions beyond standard procedures and often to meet multi-jurisdictional requirements.

    Role Summary

    This role will suit an individual who is flexible, adapts to changing priorities and has the ability to manage and deal with their own workload. Experience particularly in financial services and medical insurance or the administration of medical insurance is an advantage. The role will involve the provision of regulatory/compliance support and assistance to the business under the supervision of the Chief Counsel, Middle East & Africa and the Head of Compliance, Middle East & Africa.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Legal and Compliance teams to review, monitor and oversee the implementation of relevant legislation and regulation and legislative and regulatory change across the Middle East.

  • Provide regulatory guidance on regional regulations to the business as needed.

  • Provide training and updates as appropriate to the business, reviewing existing operational processes to ensure compliance.

  • Engage with regulators, decision makers, business groups and other industry networks to enhance understanding, ensure industry connectivity and advocate for Cigna’s interests.

  • Identify, measure, and assess legal and regulatory risk and maintain effective systems, policies and procedures to manage identified risks.

  • Implementation of corporate governance framework, and ongoing monitoring and management of processes.

  • Assist the MEA Legal & Compliance team with tasks and regional projects that may be allocated from time to time.

  • Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience practising law, with at least 3 years of experience in an international law firm

  • Proven experience of working with a Medical Insurance/Healthcare Services organisation with an international focus and a good understanding of the relationship companies have with regulatory bodies.

  • Skills:

  • Analytical, problem solving and ability to implement effective solutions using creative drive.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Confident and effective provision of information to stakeholders enabling them to make accurate decisions based on the information provided.

  • Provision of quality presentations/training in a variety of settings.

  • Comfortable in challenging the business in order to improve processes that are in place.

  • Informed decision making based on knowledge of industry standards and policies.

  • Project management skills.

  • Proactive in approach to work.

  • Good record keeping skills.

  • Adaptable and willing join in with all new initiatives and projects as well as having the skills to work on their own when defining and driving forward their specific areas of responsibility.

  • A team player with a can-do attitude and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment on time and on budget.

  • Solid understanding of the Middle East region’s regulatory and legal framework.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry, with health insurance experience preferred but not essential.

  • Ability to work confidently within groups in a multi-cultural environment and respond to global/cultural sensitivities.

  • Demonstrate ethics and integrity at all times.
