Job Description

Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project is an eight-year USAID-funded activity (2018-2026), supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The project is strengthening Egypt’s horticulture market system and improving the capacity of smallholder farmers and processors, producer organizations (POs), and horticultural institutions through agricultural knowledge transfer and training to familiarize farmers with higher-value production of horticulture crops. Improvements to the value chain will raise employment and incomes for vulnerable Egyptians and enhance food security throughout the country. The project’s goal is to create a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through horticulture sector growth, with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers in Upper Egypt and the Delta.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Women play a key role in Egypt’s horticulture sector, particularly in processing firms and pack houses, and considering their priorities and constraints will be key to achieving the Project’s objectives. Similarly, farm-level participation indecisions regarding investment or new crop choices are often made by husbands and wives together, but the information that informs decisions is most often targeted at men. Led by Gender Integration Lead Ms. Ghada Hammam, the Project will integrate women and family units as agents of change and give women more exposure to resources and information so that they can enhance their roles in all parts of the value chain. In any farm-level training we will emphasize the level of participation decision-making, such as family budgeting for farm investment both men and women with knowledge.

The Gender Associate Trainer will support gender roles analysis and gender mainstreaming activities through conducting training program to target population, both males and female, of fresh university graduates and women beneficiaries in target areas. The trainer will work together under the supervision of Gender Integration Lead to fulfil all project requirements. The trainer will participate in delivering TOT training to university graduate and teachers of Agricultures Technical Schools(ATS) in target governorates to increase their knowledge about gender concepts, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming activities, and improve their skills in conducting gender awareness sessions. Trained university graduates and teachers of ATS will participate in the project activities, and they will have an important role in gender- sensitive social and behavioral change communication. ‍

Essential Job Functions

Activities

  • Prepare and update and test the gender component training manuals for the project’s different training models.
  • Participate in developing TOT training manuals.
  • Implement the gender component different training models.
  • Facilitate gender initiatives supporting rural women in the project governorates.
  • Contribute to new and innovative approaches promoting the project’s gender activities implementation and advancing rural women’s capacity.
  • Provide mentorship and technical assistance to the beneficiary communities and NGOs regarding gender mainstreaming.
  • Review draft course content and methodology.
  • Support documentation and evaluation of training courses.
  • Support Social Behavior Change and Communications Lead Expert in developing and delivering the necessary tools and strategy.
  • Capture and document gender success stories.


Deliverables

  • Support in developing training manuals and TOT training manuals.
  • Deliver trainings and Training of Trainers workshops.
  • Develop reports on results of training activities and coaching.
  • Develop gender mainstreaming plans.

Qualifications

  • Years of experience: 5 years of experience in designing and implementing Gender activities and training materials.
  • Education level and degree type: University Degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, or any relevant degree is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of gender analysis, working with women and youth and local communities as well as with NGOs.
  • Excellent training and communication skills.
  • Readiness for frequent travel for project-related activities is required.
  • Previous experience in donor projects is preferred.
