Position Summary:
The MEP Estimator is responsible for accurately forecasting the costs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in construction projects. This role involves evaluating project specifications, drawings, and documents to prepare detailed cost estimates that contribute to project bids and budgeting.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate Preparation:
- Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and scope requirements, to develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components.
- Calculate costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings and designs to identify MEP requirements.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination:
- Work with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information for materials and services.
- Evaluate subcontractor bids and proposals for completeness and accuracy.
- Develop and maintain a network of reliable vendors and subcontractors.
- Cost Analysis and Benchmarking:
- Perform value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct comparative analysis of past projects to develop benchmarks for future estimates.
- Stay updated on current industry costs and adjust estimates as needed.
- Project Collaboration:
- Coordinate with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure MEP components align with overall project scope.
- Assist in creating project schedules and budgets based on estimates.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed and organized estimation reports and supporting documents.
- Present cost estimates to project stakeholders, explaining key assumptions and risk factors.
- Risk Assessment and Compliance:
- Identify potential project risks related to MEP components and incorporate contingency costs as needed.
- Ensure all estimates comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in MEP estimation or a similar role.
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, ProEst) and MS Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and costs specific to MEP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in cost estimating or construction (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, Certified Cost Professional).
- Familiarity with BIM and CAD software for reading and understanding complex MEP layouts.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
