ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (COs). Job holders operate with minimal supervision and are heavily involved in day–to–day activities, and analytical work and provide advice on less complex issues.
This role will be reporting to the Head of Communications, Marketing, and Advocacy to ensure that the CO communications activities serve WFP needs in the country of assignment, taking into consideration the overall Egypt Country Office communications plan and WFP's corporate communications goals.
JOB PURPOSE:
To lead on advocacy and social media and to support other communications and information management activities for WFP Egypt Country Office under the new Country Strategic Plan for 2023-28
Organizational Context

WFP’s current five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2023-2028 aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, ensuring food and nutrition security for all Egyptians.
The CSP focuses on three interrelated thematic areas:
1. Supporting crisis-affected populations through food assistance and resilience building.
2. Improving the resilience of vulnerable Egyptian populations, particularly in Haya Kareema villages.
3. Strengthening government capacity and promoting South-South cooperation between Egypt and neighboring countries.
Job purpose
The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of the Country Office’s social media strategy, and advocacy initiatives, managing content creation, and performance analytics, as well as development of various communication and advocacy products. They will oversee platforms such as Instagram, X, Facebook -Meta Business Suite, and Mailchimp, ensuring data-driven improvements and content management. Additionally, the incumbent will provide staff capacity-strengthening training in areas related to social media and will be required to establish relations with regional and HQ communications focal points to strategize and amplify advocacy and communication opportunities. They will also act as a lead photographer, ensuring proper documentation and archiving of media assets, while maintaining communications equipment and supporting crisis response efforts.
The job holder will be expected to independently manage the effective delivery of related activities and products, which are to be delivered in coordination with a Country Office team, operating a programme of moderate complexity, while also coordinating with the Regional Bureau and Headquarters.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
1. Develop an annual social media strategy for the Country Office’s (CO) Instagram and X accounts.
2. Develop content (posts, carousels, and reels) for WFP Egypt's social media accounts (Instagram and X).
3. Manage Meta business suite and “Ads Manager” platform.
4. Conduct ongoing performance analytics and quarterly performance for WFP Egypt’s social media accounts, recommending needed changes to improve performance.
5. Deliver internal training for the communications team on social media management and content creation.
6. Lead on advocacy initiatives and activities for the Egypt CO.
7. Collate input for and develop the Egypt CO’s quarterly newsletter and provide relevant performance analytics following dissemination.
8. Manage and regularly update a digital database of contacts (500+) on Mailchimp.
9. Secure and deliver advocacy opportunities to promote the Egypt CO’s work within WFP on a regional and global level.
10. Establish a strong network with relevant HQ and regional communications focal points for continuous collaboration and positioning of CO programmes through different initiatives.
11. Develop and maintain monthly internal communications products (such as the Communications Bulletin, CAM in Action email update, etc.) for information sharing.
12. Create designs for branded materials for events and campaigns.
13. Act as lead photographer and videographer in the Communications team, ensuring an up-to-date and complete archiving system for consent forms.
14. Oversee the inventory, registration, and maintenance of all communications documentation equipment, ensuring they are properly stored, regularly serviced, and appropriately used across the team.
15. Support in responding to any ad hoc requests on information/communication related to crisis response efforts.
16. Support staff as needed to ensure that standard communications procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency, and standardization of advocacy/visibility work.
17. Regularly assess and propose creative initiatives for developing improved, streamlined, and harmonized communications products serving the various needs of technical units.
18. Monitor the efficiency of established communications systems and cycles and propose improvements or use of innovative tools when needed.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:
- Experience in implementing digital/social media strategies and campaigns is required.
- Experience in content production and dissemination for online audiences and use of advanced tools for online publishing, including content management systems and social media publishing tools is an asset.
- Experience in developing advocacy campaigns and tools is required.
- Good analytical skills for social media and advocacy are required.
- Strong writing, photography, videography, and video editing skills is a must.
- Experience working in the UN system on communications or advocacy is an asset.
STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, Business Marketing or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Language: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant post-graduate professional experience in Communication, Advocacy, Business Marketing or International Relations
